Pupils online? Sure, but securely: With EduKey, pupils and teachers can gain protected access to multimedia and interactive education platforms such as Edunex.

So that pupils can learn more flexibly and independently, more and more schools are working with multimedia learning platforms such as Edunex. However, many parents are afraid that working in the internet may not be secure. EduKey – a small multifunctional box with a fingerprint scanner that is connected to a computer – provides protection whilst online.

Once the pupil has been identified by scanning his fingerprint, EduKey starts its own operating system and automatically calls up the learning environment via the browser and runs personal security certificate checks in the background. The personal security certificates are checked in the background during access. These also record which user has what rights. For example, are users only entitled to have read-access to files or can they also modify them? The biometric fingerprint technology ensures that each pupil and teacher can only use their own EduKey. If the key is lost, nobody else can use it. The user-friendliness of the key also ensures that pupils who are not yet able to speak German can also authenticate themselves on learning platforms free from discrimination.

Personal access

With EduKey, pupils and teachers can work flexibly. Users are always provided with their personal interface, even if they access the learning environment using the key from another computer. The advantage of this is that children do not necessarily need to have their own laptop or PC and can call up the learning content from anywhere – at home, at a fellow pupil’s house, in the classroom or at grandma and grandpa’s. Furthermore, no files, folders or other settings are changed on the computer used.

Schools can also define white lists and save them on EduKey. These determine which websites the pupils are allowed to visit when online, thus minimizing the risk of being distracted by visiting other websites when learning. The construction of EduKey is also secure: The multifunctional box has been developed so that it can withstand even the harshest environments – namely the school satchel.
